The dusky eagle-owl is a large greyish-brown owl with prominent ear tufts, found widely in South and Southeast Asia. The underparts are greyish white with some dark brown streaks and the dark brown wings have some whitish streaks. The wing is 380–435 mm and the tail 187–224 mm long. The type specimen was collected on the Coromandel Coast, which gave the species name (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is not deterred by daylight, though it is largely active at night, emerging from its roost shortly before sunset, and it has been seen hunting by day in cloudy weather. It uses stick nests of other large birds, in trees such as Ficus, Mitragyna and Dalbergia (Wikipedia, general species account).
