Brown Boobook

The brown boobook, or brown hawk-owl, is a medium-sized owl, 32 cm long, and a resident breeder in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, southern China and western Indonesia. It has a hawk-like shape from its long tail and lack of a distinct facial disc. The upperparts are dark brown, the tail is barred, the underparts are whitish with reddish-brown streaking, and the eyes are large and yellow. The sexes look alike, and nine subspecies are recognised (Wikipedia, general species account).
