The banded bullfrog is a narrow-mouthed frog native to Southeast Asia, also called the Asian painted frog, digging frog, Malaysian bullfrog or painted balloon frog, and known as the chubby frog in the pet trade. Adults measure 5.4–7.5 cm and weigh 80–120 g, with a dark brown back and stripes that vary from copper-brown to salmon pink (Wikipedia, general species account).
It lives at low altitudes in both urban and rural settings and in forest, hides under leaf litter by day and feeds in the evening, mainly on ants and termites. In dry periods it buries itself underground and emerges after heavy rain to call and breed. When threatened, it inflates its lungs and secretes a noxious white substance (Wikipedia, general species account).
