The lanceolated warbler is a Locustella warbler that breeds from north-west European Russia across the Palearctic to northern Hokkaido, Japan. The adult has a streaked brown back and whitish-grey underparts with small lance-head-like streaks, also found on the undertail; the sexes are identical, but young birds are yellower below. It is migratory, wintering in Southeast Asia. The genus name is a diminutive of the Latin for grasshopper, referring to the songs of the group (Wikipedia, general species account).

Five eggs are laid in a nest in a tussock. The song is a monotonous mechanical, insect-like reeling as in other species of the group, often given at dusk (Wikipedia, general species account).
