Rattus baluensis
Habitat
High-altitude dwarf forest and montane scrubland
Range
Endemic to Mount Kinabalu and Mount Tambuyukon, Sabah (Borneo)
The summit rat is found only on Mount Kinabalu and Mount Tambuyukon, recorded at 2,040–2,477 m on Tambuyukon and 2,670–3,426 m on Kinabalu. It is most abundant in higher-altitude dwarf forest and montane scrubland. The populations on the two peaks were connected in the Holocene but are now genetically isolated despite being only 18 km apart (Wikipedia, general species account).
